Primary Purpose:
Provide intervention to students who have been identified as having dyslexia using the district’s dyslexia intervention program on all campuses. Monitor students’ accommodation plans as specified in their 504 plan, attend 504 meetings for dyslexia students, and facilitate dyslexic student’s academic success in the general education curriculum.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teacher certificate
- Reading specialist certification preferred
- Training in teaching dyslexic students using the multi-sensory teaching approach (DIP) required
Special Skills:
- Specific knowledge in the functions of the Student Team (SST), preferred
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience: Minimum Three years successful teaching experience
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an itinerant or stationary MTA interventionist for all campuses as assigned
- Assist in evaluating students who have been referred to the dyslexia program and provide periodic evaluation of students served
- Participate in campus IAT meetings and use data to make recommendations to the IAT in determining appropriate placement
- Provide assistance to classroom teachers by helping them identify appropriate strategies on the delivery of regular classroom reading instructions to identified students
- Coordinate services with other involved school personnel in planning and providing joint instruction for the students
- Follow district procedures for the program
